The lo-fi energy of vintage Akai S1100 sampling yields a rich sonic stew of percolating breakbeats, random speech snippets, and tunes at once elegiac and jaunty. This release has one foot in the artist's MicroStudio/Carpet Bomb period (especially the drumming) but is moving into the more atmospheric moods of later solo releases. Favorite track: Wherever Tang Lung.

Recorded 1997 - 1998 but not properly released until now! Lovingly remastered from the original Digital Audio Tapes!

These tracks were recorded the year after I graduated college. I moved into an apartment on the east side of NYC's East Village (between avenues B & C). I had a Boss dr-660 drum machine and an Akai S1100 sampler plus a hand me down computer from my roommate.

Ah, to be 23 again. With my youthful stamina I was able to spend hours programming the sampler to provide synth sounds and filling it with samples of my own guitar playing, Pablo's (the other half of Microstudio) drum playing, jazz albums, CDs for tai-chi practice from Chinatown, samples off of bootleg kung fu VHS tapes and whatever else.

Those with long memories may remember some of these tracks from mp3 dot com around the turn of the century.
